Welcome to Street Wonk!
I’m so glad you’re here. Street Wonk is brought to you by Chloe Eudaly, former indie bookseller, community advocate, and recovering politician. After decades of activism, advocacy, and firsthand experience inside and outside of government, I launched Street Wonk to demystify local politics, amplify progressive causes, and explore how communities everywhere can drive transformative change.
At its core, Street Wonk aims to be more than a newsletter — it’s a space for people committed to understanding the complex political, social, economic, and environmental challenges we face, and an opportunity to learn, connect, and collaborate for a better future. Whether you're a policymaker, political activist, or concerned community member, there’s room for everyone committed to a just future here.
What You’ll Find at Street Wonk
Street Wonk explores how local issues intersect with public policy and civic power.
Using Portland, Oregon, as a living case study, Street Wonk illuminates challenges facing cities everywhere — from housing affordability and climate action to governance reform and democratic participation.
If you want to build local power, whatever your city, you’ll find tools, insights, and inspiration here.
At the heart of Street Wonk is the Agenda Tracker. Each week, I comb through dozens of items crossing the desks of our elected representatives at the city, county, and regional levels. I highlight the most notable among them, translate them into concise and accessible language, and offer context, commentary, and further reading. I also make it easy for readers to access the information they need to engage with their local governing bodies and get their voices heard.
Other regular features include:
Civic Circuit: a monthly calendar of recommended events
Signal Boosts: urgent calls to action
Voter Guides: tailored to help readers make informed choices
I also maintain a Street Wonk Bookshop on Bookshop.org, featuring books I love and highly recommend.
What’s Next?
With your support, Street Wonk will continue to grow and evolve. As paid subscriptions grow, I’ll add new weekly and monthly features such as in-depth articles and interviews with activists, advocates, and policymakers shaping our communities.
With your support, I plan to launch a website and eventually establish a real-life hub for learning, connection, and action, with meeting space, live events, book clubs, and more.
Free and Paid Subscriptions
Street Wonk’s current content is fully accessible to both free and paid subscribers because I believe vital civic information should be available to everyone. Paid subscriptions—starting at $3/month or $30/year for new subscribers—unlock additional features like commenting and chat, future paid-subscriber-only content, and full archive access.
Your support directly sustains this work and helps build the civic literacy and engagement we desperately need.
Why Street Wonk?
I launched Street Wonk to bridge the gap between policies and the people they affect, because local politics shapes everything.
Informed, engaged communities aren’t just vital in Portland—they're key to transformative change everywhere.
Whether you’re here to learn, contribute, or act, I’m thrilled to have you. So, welcome to Street Wonk—where you don’t need a degree to become an expert on the issues that affect you, your family, or your community.
Let’s wonk out together!
"The learning process is something you can incite, literally incite, like a riot."
